Proving the Impossible
by Yuichi Morita After they wrote their signatures, you first receive recorder B from the person B and reassure B's signature to the audience. Then, you now pretend that you put the recorder B into the inner pocket (left side) of your jacket. You are actually dropping the recorder B to your left sleeve. At this point, do not forget that you vend your arm to prevent the recorder B from sliding off. Then, you make sure that the recorder B stopped at around your elbow. After this, you slowly let the recorder B slides, so that you can catch and palm it. Now you receive the recorder A with your right hand, and ask the person A to say his or her name loudly after you give him or her a sign. At this point, you approach the recorder A to the person A's mouth and pretend that you push the recording button. Indeed, you do not push the button of the recorder A, instead, you push the recording button of the recorder B in your left hand. You make sure that you clearly show the signature of the person A. It is sure that misdirection is effective here, but you need to get used to controlling your shirt's button with one hand. It is safer to do it behind the table. Then, after you finish recording, you push the stop button and palm the recorder B. While doing it, you pretend that you push the stop button of the recorder A. With the recorder B palmed in your left hand, you receive the recorder A in the hand and pretend that you put it into your right inner pocket of your jacket. Actually, you are dropping the recorder B, which is palmed in your left hand, into your right sleeve. In the same manner that is described earlier, you palm the recorder B in your right hand. Your left hand should be in a relaxed position with palming the recorder A. Now, you say, "let's recorder the voice of the person B." You face the person B and put your right hand into your left side of your inside pocket and pick up your "palmed" recorder B. In similar manner, you pretend that you record with the recorder B in your right hand. You are actually recording with the recorder A. After the recording, you pass the recorder in your right hand to the person B. With palming the recorder A in your left hand, you put it into right side of your inner pocket. And pick up the recorder A and pass it to the person A. Lastly, you ask them to wrap the recorder with their both hands. The explanation of this trick is done, however, you could include the following famous joke. After your magical gesture, you explain that the recorders were exchanged by magic. Moreover, you say you did the same thing with magic again and put their recorder's back ! Then, to the audience, you explain that the A and B are actually exchanged. You ask the person A to push the play button, and ask the person B to do the same. You can show the audience the person A and B's signatures and also show that each voice is exchanged. *This instruction is for the right-handed person. If you are left handed,
you have to switch the process explained above.
