Proving the Impossible

Stabbed and Switched
Contest Deadline: July 20th, 2007

Have an impossible effect which you'd like to challenge our readers with? Let us know!

This month's challenge comes from reader Noel Dominguez. Noel's idea is, simply put, a transposition, but one with a visual element that makes this one quite interesting. Keeping this one clean and visible is what makes it a tough problem to tackle.

Challenge
A red card (for example, the Nine of Hearts) and a black card (for example, the Seven of Spades) are chosen by a spectator. The spectator selects which card to hold onto and gives the performer the other (let's assume the spectator keeps the Seven of Spades). The performer stabs the Nine of Hearts with a pencil, clearly making a hole through the card. The card is turned face down, the hole rubbed, and it's seen to be restored. When the card is turned over, it's seen to be the Seven of Spades, the card the spectator was holding. The spectator lifts their hand and reveals the Nine of Hearts, complete with the hole in the center. This card is then restored, leaving both the Seven and the Nine undamaged.

Conditions
- No gaffs or gimmicks.
- No stooges

To submit your solution, simply send it, as a plain text file, via e-mail to shane@online-visions.com.

As always, be as original as you dare!

Good luck!
