(Pierced Kenesis) Since releasing his first offering to the magic and mental community, ‘Thoughts So Far’ over three years ago, Kennedy has gone from strength to strength. He now performs at corporate and private events all over the world. This latest piece shows his devious mind is back at work when it comes to mental trickery. A strange effect for you this time, I hope you will enjoy it. I came up with it by accident as I worked a drinks reception just before I was to perform my cabaret. This is a perfect time for getting people ready for your show. The performer calls a woman to the stage asking for the lend of her right earring, and confirms that he has never touched it before or set anything up with her. The audience is asked to concentrate, to engage their imaginations to see the earring bending. See it in their minds eye. After a suitable length of presentation the performer admits defeat, the earring hasn’t moved at all. The young woman is retaking her seat when the mentalist has one ray of hope left in his body, you have an earring in your other ear don’t you? She comes bounding back up to the stage, removing the earring from her own lobe it is found to be bent. Okay, this is not for everyone. You might find the idea of bending a woman’s earring wrong or indecent. That’s up to you. What I can tell you is that it’s a very strange and totally unique effect. The method allows for you to apparently bend an earring that you never touch, while it is still in someone else’s ear! Its unforgettable, believe me. The way I accomplish this is very simple and direct. However as usual I do not present it here as the final solution of how you should perform it. Rather as a stimulus to thinking about other, out of the box effects you can create. Everyone bends spoons, forks, some even do keys. I’ve never seen anyone bend an earring. As I mentioned earlier, I often perform the drinks reception before I perform cabaret, this is a great time to perform pre-show, without needing to hide it. People know you are around performing. So during this time I approach a women who I know I will be able to recognise later. The only requisite is that she is wearing a pair of earrings. After introducing myself I perform an experiment in mind reading, this will get her in the mood of things and establish my credentials. The second thing I do will be to prepare her for the show later, of course she won’t know that is what I am doing. I ask for the loan of her left earring (the one I do NOT borrow during the show later). I say I am going to make it bend. I make a big drama of it and...fail. I then offer to assist her in putting it back in her ear. It is at this time I sneak a bend in to it then put it right back in her ear. Now there is no way she can prematurely see the bend, and if I choose a person with long hair that disguises her ears then no one else will point it out either. So now all that remains is for me to call her on stage, have her confirm we didn’t set anything up, that I have never touched her RIGHT earring and the rest is...incredible! I hope you enjoy it.
