"Any Ring", a utility device by Richard Sanders, moves the classic "ring hank" into the modern age and makes the old thing practical and workable once again.

The ring hank has been around for a long, long time, but has never been that practical to begin with due to having to be a bit picky about the ring used or having audience management skills in abundance. That greatly limited when a trick using the hank could be done; too often the only recourse available was to not perform the trick at all.

Sanders' updating of the classic takes care of that. "Any Ring" will work with any type and style of ring of any thickness. Gone is the worry about using "the right ring". I've worked with this with pretty much anything I could borrow -- from thin cocktail rings to thick signets to wedding bands -- and it does exactly what it should.

If you've pretty much ignored classic props for the latest gadgets, a ring hank may be an unknown quantity to you. To clear the air a bit, here's what "Any Ring" allows you to do:

You borrow a spectator's ring and put it under your handkerchief. The spectator holds their ring through the handkerchief, feeling the ring there. When the spectator releases the ring, or you pull the handkerchief away, the ring is gone. The fine points? The handkerchief can be shown freely and the ring is in your possession to do whatever you want with it: reproduce it from an impossible location, effect a transposition with it, even penetrations (like the "ring-on-pen" effect Sanders supplies in the "Any Ring" instructions) are possible.

In many way, this truly is a working performers' ring hank. It's very well made, entirely workable, and truly utilitarian.

Practicality: 10
It's the classic "ring hank", updated for a new age, and getting rid of the problem of selecting just the right ring for the trick. Sanders' so-simple-it's-elegant thinking has made the old piece workable in all situations with all rings. A standard size black handkerchief, it takes little room, requires no set-up or reset, and is workable across the board.

The handkerchief is very well made, the gimmick perfectly hidden and weighted. This will last a long time with proper care.

The instructions are as you'd expect for a utility device: clean and straightforward. Sanders went the extra mile, with a nice array of black and white photos and a nice effect with the device.
