In a Blink: 9 Out of 10

"Prohibition 2.0", a DVD by Charlie Justice and Jeff Pierce, takes the much-beloved neo-classic and turns it loose again, this time with an additional disc loaded with more handlings and ideas to up the ante of the original a dozen times over.

It's no secret I loved the original "Prohibition" (I reviewed it when it first came out in case your interested), so I'm not going to rehash that; we'll concentrate entirely on this extra disc, "Provisions" and, brother, it's a bombshell.

Simply put, it's a disc packed with some great ideas and routines to accentuate the original "Prohibition". I won't go into all the details because most of them tie to the workings of the original "Prohibition" and I'm not going to even hint at the workings so consider this your "Generalities Ahead" warning.

Let's see.. First, you get some cool ideas about some hold-outs that can keep you armed and dangerous until it's time for you to bring out the big guns and nail them right between the eyes. You'll also get a look at some other things that can be used in place of bottlecaps for when you feel like doing something different.

Second, you learn a very slick handling for doing "Prohibition" with a signed bottle cap. Yep, that's right. Now the cap can be signed before the penetration takes place and verified throughout the routine. This is just too slick and probably win over many a "Prohibition" user. Likewise, "Instant Re-Do" will have a few folks fall in love; in this version, it's one "Prohibition" after the other without no moves evident. This one I liked but I'll save for those "do-it-again-do-it-again" times (or for repeat customers).

Third, Justice goes off the rails with some things called "Ninja Moves". Now I had no idea what Justice was up to here, but once I saw it, I laughed out loud. Justice has created a couple of segue routines based on the classic "Karate Coin" plot using that folded bottle cap. Through those ideas into line with "Prohibition" and you've got almost an entire act working for you.

Lastly, Justice throws out two delicious ideas. "The Coin Accomplice", which is essentially a "Prohibition" done with coins, and "The Sobriety Test" which has made me a legend in bars (I say that like it's a good thing because it's you and me, Dear Reader, and you know what I mean). Then there's the "Ninja Folds" which will take your breath away. In those, a full, unbent cap penetrates the bottle and it's more devious than it sounds.

There are other things Justice covers, too, like the right way of removing and bending the cap, the best way of using a borrowed bottle (or ringing in your own), and the like. But the real story here is that Justice has somehow managed to improve on perfection with his "Prohibition 2.0", period.

Yeah, I'm as high on "Prohibition" as I ever was, and "Prohibition 2.0" is the perfect "set" for this classic piece of magic.

And the cool part? Jeff Pierce Magic is run by one of the most straight-up guys in the business. Got the original "Prohibition" and just need the "Provisions" piece? It's a digital download at his website. No need to re-buy the original; Pierce is looking out for you wonderfully.

As high as I was with "Prohibition", I'm even moreso on "Prohibition 2.0". This is a set that is a must-have for any worker; it's too good to pass up.

P.S. Don't expect anything new in the "In the Blink" section below; "Prohibition" is "Prohibition" and "2.0" is still a 10-outta-10 no matter how you look at it.

In a Blink: 10 Out of 10

Material: 10
Wow. That's all I can say. Simple, straightforward... and it's wonderfully visual. Yeah, I'm a fan of this one; I was after the first time I did it.

Practicality: 10
Everything can be borrowed, set-up and reset is a breeze, it can be done practically anywhere a glass bottle is handy, angles are not an issue... "Prohibition" has a lot going for it when it comes to being practical.

Quality of Production: 10
Great audio, great video, simple navigation, and nice extras. What else could you want?

Quality of Instruction: 10
Charlie Justice does a fantastic job teaching this. Lots of details, lots of fine points, lots of variations (some minor, some major) and all clear and concise and entertaining. Kudos to Justice here.

Presentation: 10
This is all about the handling and the visuals, and Justice covered the bases here. Do a little work, make it fit you a bit on the verbal side, and you've got a winner.
